 HOW
DO YOU GET TO USE ALL THIS MATERIAL ?
The
Archives are available to NHS staff and to members of the public. However,
researchers should bear in mind that certain records are not available for
general access for reasons of confidentiality. These records can only be
made available to those officially charged with carrying out the purposes
for which they were created.
Apart from internal use, medical research and the history of health care, the Archives are used by researchers in many areas, including family, local, architectural and social history.

In order to make the best use of your time it is advisable to telephone us first, so as to establish that we have records of use to you and arrange a convenient time to see them. The Archives department is only staffed 1½ days a week, during which time we have many visitors and also have to go out to other hospitals. So it is necessary to book in advance. When you do come bring paper to record your findings and a pencil; pens are not allowed, as any accidental mark on a document would be permanent.
