 The
Chalfont Beekeepers Society
Founded in 1976
www.chalfontbees.org.uk
The Society.
The Society's primary aim is to promote the craft of beekeeping amongst
its members and to publicise the benefits to the local community. There
are currently some 60 members who keep bees in their gardens, or in
"out apiaries" on nearby farmland in and around the Chalfonts.
Society members have about 150 hives in
the area which house in the region of 7,000,000 bees at the height of the
summer, ensuring good pollination of fruit bushes and trees, vegetable
crops and flowers for both professional and amateur growers.
Monthly meetings.
Members meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 8:00pm in the Parish
Reading Room, High Street, Chalfont St. Giles to listen to and take part
in a varied programme of talks and demonstrations on beekeeping and
related topics.
Annual Honey Show.
The Honey Show is one of the many attractions in the Chalfont St. Giles
Show, which is held on the first Saturday in September each year.
Classes for beginners.
Beekeeping classes for beginners are organised each year, including both
theory and practical sessions. The cost of the Beginners course is £40
for 2007. This includes free tuition and support, discounted kit, a free
beekeeping reference book to keep, worth £10, full membership of the Club
and access to its newsletters and library. It also provides membership of
the British Beekeepers’ Association and Bucks County BKA as well as many
other benefits. The club arranges monthly talks, visits and socials of
interest to beekeepers and partners, most of which are free of charge.
The next Beginners course begins on
Tuesday 5th February 2008 starting at 7.30pm at the Reading Rooms, High
Street. No previous knowledge of bees or beekeeping is necessary. It is
not necessary to keep bees thereafter, but members will be equipped to do
so if they wish to.
